Rekids, one of dance music’s most treasured labels, celebrates ten years of existence at Oval Space on 29th May, joined by label boss Radio Slave, DJ Spider, Evan Baggs, and a very special guest – techno superstar Rødhåd.
Since its inception in 2006, Rekids has been at the very forefront of the UK’s contemporary house and techno scene. Under Matt Edwards’ careful curatorial hand, Rekids has championed a propulsive, texturally rich brand of electronics, releasing music from the likes of Nina Kraviz, Marcel Dettmann, Shed and Mr. G. On 28th May, Rekids rings in ten years with a very special headline act: Dystopian boss and Panorama Bar favourite Rødhåd. Since exploding onto the techno scene in 2010, Rødhåd has become one of the most sought after acts in modern 4/4 music, first as a Berghain-regular famed for pulverising marathon sets, now also as a deeply talented producer and label owner. Crowned the Breakthrough Artist of the Year by RA in 2012, Rødhåd founded Dystopian, one of the most important techno labels of the past decade, responsible for seminal EPs from the likes of Recondite and Alex.Do. With an upcoming remix for Rekids due in the summer, Rødhåd is the perfect artist to celebrate the label’s tenth anniversary.
Radio Slave, founder of Rekids and another OSM regular, also headlines on 29th May. Matt Edwards has now joined us in Bethnal Green six times before, but this date marks the first time he has showcased his label at Oval Space. The Rekids boss is rightly regarded as one of the UK’s finest selectors, whose enviable record collection spans everything from modern house sounds to classic Detroit techno, and everything in between. As a producer, Radio Slave is one of the UK’s finest, whose intoxicating blend of 4/4 rhythms and melodies has featured for the likes of Ostgut Ton and Running Back, along with his beloved Rekids.
He’s joined by DJ Spider. Under various guises, the New Yorker has been releasing tough, exquisite 4/4 music for some time. Since 2008, his Plan B Recordings has been behind a series of raw EPs from the likes of Amir Alexander and Hakim Murphy, while Spider’s own productions have also appeared on The Trilogy Tapes and Finale Sessions. Evan Baggs rounds out the lineup. We’ve been eager to welcome Evan back to Bethnal Green since he tore the roof of our 24 hour party last summer. Baggs is one of the modern minimal house scene’s brightest stars, the latest in a tradition of vinyl-obsessed Berlin-orientated DJs who learned their craft at Club der Visionaere, inspired by old maestro Zip.
