Debut @ Mutate presents : Ø [Phase] (Token, UK) & Sunil Sharpe (Sheworks, Earwiggle, IRE)

The Pint
, 28 Eden Quay, Dublin Dublin 1

Debut @ Mutate proudly presents Ø [Phase] playing for the very first time in Ireland, in the intimate surroundings of the Pint, for what promises to be a night of upfront Techno.

We’ve been big fans of Ø [Phase] for the last few years and the recent ‘Frames Of Reference’ album on Belgium’s TOKEN records, his first full length on the label, cemented our opinion that Ashley is definitely one of Techno’s most exciting producers.

Adding to the bill is Dublin’s very own Sunil Sharpe, who needs little or no introduction at this stage. With an ever increasing touring schedule which has seen him play all over Europe the last year including the Techno “Mecca” Berghain (Berlin) among others locations, the local DJ/ Producer is well in demand and we’re delighted to have him on board.

Support on the night comes from Mutate favourite Giles
Armstrong (Electric City/ Life Festival) and Tenth Planet’s Rob Maguire (Biotech Recordings).

And if Techno isn’t your thing, don’t worry, we’ll also have the Bar (downstairs) rocking to the sounds of Irish production duo Dog Days (Gruuv Assembly records), providing some deep and soulful house from their back catalogue of released and unreleased material. Joining Dog Days will be local producer, CheckMate aka Kev O’Driscol.

Ø [Phase] Bio :
UK based Techno producer best known by his work on the Belgium based Token Records and whose style ranges from gritty minimal techno to Detroit influenced material. Originally a Mastering engineer, he began producing as a sideline, releasing his debut ‘Module Overload’ on Steve Bicknell’s Lost/Cosmic records in 2000. This was followed by a string of productions for London’s Surface/Inceptive Records and Ben Sims Ingoma imprint, all of which saw consistent support throughout the techno community.

Since he started working with Token in 2007, his music has progressively earned more and more worldwide recognition – most significantly on 2012’s much acclaimed ‘Binary Opposition’ single and subsequent ‘Reprocessed’ remix package. In 2013 he finally released his first full length album, ‘Frames of Reference’.

Recent times have seen him remix for the likes of Robert Hood, Peter Van Hoesen & Mark Broom, while avid support from Marcel Dettmann and Ben Klock have led to regular appearances at Berghain in Berlin. Today, his DJ schedule is busier than ever, having performed in Rome, Oslo, Amsterdam, London, Stockholm, Buenos Aires, Brussels, Marseille, Nijmegen, Glasgow, Vienna, Shanghai and at several festivals including I Love Techno over the last few months.

Sunil Sharpe Bio :
Sunil Sharpe is one of Ireland’s most renowned djs. Initially gaining an enviable reputation for his dj sets on Dublin’s techno scene (following his first gigs in late 2000), Sunil soon started to play regularly abroad too, including an early appearance at Berlin’s Tresor Club in 2001. He also began a long running involvement in pirate radio, working at Dublin’s Spindizzy record store and of course playing up and down the country as he became one of the “must see” djs around.

Sunil’s first vinyl releases came in 2006 but with a much greater focus on music-making recently he has been earning widespread attention for his distinct, rough-edged productions on labels like Black Sun Records, Komisch, Inner Surface Music, Violet Poison and most notably Blawan & Pariah’s Works The Long Nights (aka Sheworks).

His own label Earwiggle so far counts anodyne, Steve Stoll, Dez Williams, Paul Birken & Freddy Fresh and dualit amongst its group of artists. 2014 already promises much with a slew of releases on the way.

A valued cog in the wheel of the Irish electronic music scene, Sunil has been with national station RTÉ 2fm since 2007, where each month he showcases his top picks of new music and features guest mixes/interviews from some of his favourite acts. He also teaches the DJ Techniques class at Bray Institute of Further Education, where he has been since 2005.

Sunil’s popularity extends beyond the techno scene too, and was further acknowledged at the last Irish Dance Music Awards when he was voted Best DJ. His current dj schedule is a busy one, taking in some of the best techno clubs and events around Europe as he enters an interesting new stage in his ever-evolving musical career.
