Tresor is the legendary label and club from Berlin founded in 1991. It was first opened as an art gallery with uncertain future, and here it is 26 years later, as strong as a vault. Its unique space, a cellar with a dance floor between two safes, usually covered in dense fog, was a meeting place of German youth after the fall of the wall. Tresor has witnessed many seminal moments for rave culture and has survived the demolition of the first venue in 2005.
A percussionist turned producer, Hamburg-born Mortiz Von Oswald made his mark on the German electronic music scene in the ’90s as one of the most influential producers of dub techno. His collaboration with Juan Atkins was what set up the mood for a now steady relationship between Detroit and Berlin. He is a part of Tresor’s story since its beginnings. He founded Basic Channel Records in 1993 with Mark Ernestus. His most recent victories include four albums released with the Moritz Van Oswald Trio where he collaborated with Vladislav Delay, Max Loderbauer and afrobeat legend Tony Allen. In one word – Pioneer!
Mareena is our second guest from Tresor where she curates the New Faces night. Her UNRUSH podcast and event series is her vent through which she showcases aspiring and established artists but also her own taste and ways of blending genres, from Detroit, via Chicago acid, dub, ambient and back to techno.
Local support is Drugstore’s own techno cavalry, Tijana T and Filip Xavi.
Tijana T is currently on a neverending world tour where she gets to play alongside biggest names and in best venues on the globe. One thing she always carries with her is the Belgrade way. She is our techno ambassador and she loves when she comes home. Check out her three Boiler Rooms for the stretch.
Filip Xavi has visited Tresor two years ago afer he got an invitation from Dasha Rush who was impressed by his sets during her many Belgrade visits. Afer that he established a closer relationship with Berlin. He has recently released ’Drone Behavior’ EP on Decoder Recordings.
